September 20-21, 2020 at Charoenthani Princess Hotel – Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University joined 19 Teacher Training Network Institutes for Upper Northeast Development to organize a workshop on “The 1st Workshop of Teacher Induction: Smart Teaching and Learning in The New Normal: Blending innovative pedagogy and digital Technology”. The workshop was organized for 475 teachers from upper Isan schools under the Teacher Training for Local Development Project. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumalee Chaicharoen, Dean of Faculty of Education and Chairperson of the Upper Northeast Local Teacher Training Institute Network presided over the opening ceremony in which the principles and administrators of schools in the project joined.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumalee Chaicharoen explained, “The Teacher Training for Local Development Project has as an objective to select good and smart people to train in the teacher education at quality institutions. When they complete the program, they will be recruited as teachers and educators in their hometown. Firstly, they will be working as a training or assistant teacher under the professional training project two years after the recruitment. This workshop is a venue for these teachers to share experiences with and learn from their counterparts. They will be trained in action research, good instructional management, use of digital technology to support their instruction, assessment, and evaluation. They will, in addition, have a chance to build their network of teachers under the same project, who are all recruited as assistant teachers in the upper northeastern schools.”

The Workshop featured special talks on “Smart Teaching and Learning in The New Normal” by Asst. Prof. Dr. Opas Kaosaiyaporn, Assistant to the President for Educational Media and Technology Development, Prince of Songkhla University; “Technology –Enabled Active Learning” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Issara Kanjak, Associate Dean for Strategy and Organization Development, Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University. The talks are useful for all teachers for the changes that will definitely take place in their future career. They will have to change the instruction approaches where more technologies will be incorporated. The workshop was divided into 4 sessions, namely: 1) Analysis and Design of Instruction under the New Normal Education. 2) Constructing online classroom. 3) Producing videos for learning and constructing online TV channel. 4) Use of digital technology to support learning assessment. The 4 workshops were run by experts and at the end, the teachers presented their assigned work in groups, which they can apply in real situations at their schools.
