COLA joins Waseda University to hold the first CIGAR2021 in Asia

COLA, KKU joins Waseda University of Japan to promote local development and to hold the first CIGAR2021 in Asia

October 11, 2019 – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supawatanakorn Wongtanawasu, Dean of College of Local Administration; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Peerasit Khamnuansin, Advisor to COLA for Research and International Collaboration; Dr. Sirisak Laojankham, Assistant to the Dean for Research and Academic Service; and Ajarn Narong Kiatkhunwong, Assistant to the Dean for Academic Affairs were invited by the Public Service Research Institute (PSRI), Waseda University (www.waseda.jp), Japan to attend the meeting of research collaboration and development of personnel under local administrative organizations. Prof. Mari Yanagi Kobayashi, Director of Public Service Research Institute of Waseda University; Prof. Toshifumi Matsumoto from Graduate School of Accountancy; and Prof. Osamu Shimizu from Graduate School of Public Management also joined the meeting. Waseda University is an old and leading university not only in Japan but also in the world. Albert Einstein, the famous scientist, used to come and give his lectures here. The collaboration between COLA and Waseda began in 2016. Both institutes co-hosted the 5th International Conference on Government Performance Management and Leadership 2016, at COLA-KKU.

The conference was continuously held every year until the present. The 6th GPML 2019 was held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. This meeting was held to discuss two issues: first, to cooperate in searching ways to promote and develop local administrative personnel in public finance and public accounting. The aims are for administrators as well as personnel to become aware of accuracy, worthiness, accountability, transparency and the value of democracy when dealing with public finance and accountancy of the organization. This is considered the key foundation in an organization’s governance. The administrative models of the two countries are integrated that will lead to practical implementation and result in benefits of the locality. Moreover, the two institutes will hold the 18th International Conference on Comparative International Governance Accounting Research in 2021, which will be the first of its kind in Asia. Waseda University will be the host this time and the theme of the conference will be: Public Accountability and Democracy: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue and is scheduled in June 2021. COLA, Khon Kaen University will co-host the conference.
