KKU CSV project for community support

KKU hosts a community service activity to endorse its mission as a university for community devotion.

On September 5th, 2019 at Samliam Municipality School, a team of KKU staff hosts a community service. A group of the KKU presenters included; Bureau of Special Affairs, Department of Public Communication, Srinagarind Hospital’s Social Medicine Unit, KKU Animal Hospital, Strategy Research Institute, and Building and Place Unit. Honorable guests participated in the opening ceremony were; Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul (M.D.), an advisor of the acting president and the event’s chair person, Nasamol Tanakulrungsarid, assistant of the acting president for special affairs, Boonthum Boranmool, a director of Samliam Municipality School, and the school committee and community leaders.

The services the KKU provided included; physical checkup, blood pressure test, subcutaneous fat test, kidney disease assessment, and blood sugar test. The group also provides a lecture on the prevention of stroke and chronic kidney disease. The villagers were able to have their pet’s health checked, get free vaccination for their pets, and free tick terminating services. In addition, to health services for both the villagers and their pets, the participants were able to shop on chemical free vegetables while enjoying music from the student band.

 Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul said throughout its 57 years of social dedication,  Khon Kaen University has been well recognized as a leading university for research and development who values the betterment of the community. Based on its long history of social engagement, KKU is ranked by Time Higher Education as the Thailand’s number one university for its social impact. KKU has made better changes for people lives by applying its research results in establishing the betterment in education, economic, and society. KKU has been working with the communities around its fences to promote wellness for the people living around the university, which is the reason that the activities like this one have been consistently conducted.

“With the social devotion policy, we have dedicated ourselves in solving the community problems. Helping people to have higher standard of living is an indication of the overall development of this country. Community devotion is and will always be our mission and because of this sincere attempt, KKU has been well recognized nationally and internationally.” Added Assoc. Prof. Charnchai.

The activity was held to endorse the university development strategy plan 2020-2013 which emphasizes on making KKU as a center of social wisdom and the community service should be conducted partially to foster the creating of shared value (CSV), with which communities are engaged in creating a new piece of knowledge and the preservation of the community value.

Mr. Boonthum Boranmool, a director of Samliam Municipality School, said that he personally admired KKU for its role as a community builder. The school has exploited many services from the university such as obtaining academic advices and using the university’s facilities as learning resources for his students.

Mr. Somchart Chai-Ayoot, a school committee and chief of Samliam Community 3, added that Khon Kaen University is an academic center in the region. He was delighted that the university conducted this valuable activity for the villagers. Mr. Somchart added that he has been a member of KKU network, and during his three years of membership, he has witnessed KKU in performing many good deeded for the community and he expected that the university would continue this standard into the future.
