Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine dazzled attendees with its 14th annual “Doctors Splashing Colors” event, held on Saturday, October 26, 2024. This year’s theme, “Having Fun Splashing Colors,” transformed the Modindang Conference Room into a vibrant hub of creativity, featuring an eclectic mix of art, music, theater, and short films.
The event was inaugurated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kosin Wirasorn, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, alongside distinguished guests Asst. Prof. Dr. Kurusart Konharn and Assist. Prof. Dr. Piyanas Sudee, who were present to support and inspire the students.
Mr. Tanapon Chulakam, the project president, highlighted the event’s mission to equip students with practical skills and problem-solving abilities through the “Arts, Ideas, Creativity” course. This initiative showcased the artistic talents of 304 first-year medical students, offering the public a glimpse into their creative endeavors. Beyond the art, the event fostered teamwork and strengthened bonds among students, faculty, and staff.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kosin Wirasorn emphasized the importance of integrating art into medical education, stating, “While science is the foundation of medicine, holistic patient care requires an artistic touch.” The curriculum now includes courses designed to enhance critical thinking and 3D visualization skills, essential for diagnosis and treatment. These courses also develop soft skills, particularly communication, through artistic expression, preparing students for effective patient interactions in their second year.
“Today’s activities are crucial in shaping students’ skills, reflecting their dedication throughout the semester and paving the way for future learning,” he added.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Kurusart Konharn praised the event, expressing his delight in witnessing future doctors appreciate the integration of art and knowledge. He believes Khon Kaen University’s medical students will continue to excel in all dimensions, thanking the Faculty of Medicine for supporting such enriching student activities.
The event was a sensory delight from the start, with lively music, vibrant lights, and stunning decorations perfectly capturing the theme. Attendees were treated to traditional Thai music and Pong Lang performances, followed by three captivating short films. The highlight was a stage play, “The Spirit of the Temple Fair,” which explored the consequences of sacrificing one’s spirit for wealth, offering profound insights beyond mere entertainment. The day concluded with an energetic cover dance and a student concert, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained.
Second-year students Ms. Emika Chaikaew and Ms. Chonticha Teerapun shared their admiration for the event, noting the impressive execution of the theme and performances. “The stage play was flawless, blending entertainment with dramatic twists that kept us engaged until the end,” they remarked, eager to support future events.
The “Arts, Ideas, Creativity” course, overseen by the Institute of General Education, has been tailored to benefit medical students, with instruction from experts like Assist. Prof. Dr. Piyanas Sudee, Dr. Chommanad Uppachitkul, and Dr. Kan Kawmanee.
