COLA KKU joins the NESDC network, Thailand Policy Lab and UNDP to hold the workshop on “Route towards the Dream for the Policy on Northeastern Sustainable Local Development Innovations”

September 11-13, 2023 – College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University (COLA KKU) joined the Thailand United Development Program (UNDP) and Thailand Policy Lab (the policy lab established by the Office of the National Economics and Social Development Council (NESDC) to organize the workshop on: “Route towards the Dream for the Policy on Northeastern Sustainable Local Development Innovations” at Pulman Raja Orchid Hotel, Muang District, Khon Kaen. The objective of the workshop was to transfer the innovation policy to local, private and community sectors. The workshop featured the use of innovation policy in planning for sustainable local development for the Northeast.

This workshop was attended by representatives from all levels of local organizations in Isan Region. Mr. Reno Mayer, the Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Thailand, UNDP, welcomed the participants along with Mr. Suriyon Tanyakitjanukit, Advisor of Thailand Policy Lab on work plans and policies; and Assoc. Prof. Peerasit Khamnuansilpa, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University. The workshop featured, firstly, a special talk on the topic: “Setting New Policies with Innovation Policies” by Mr. Suriyon Tanyakitjanukit, Advisor of Thailand Policy Lab on work plans and policies and Khun Napat Pumsiri, Policy Experimentation Analyst, Thailand Policy Lab, UNDP Thailand. The next session was a forum on the design of cool local development innovations led by Asst. Prof. Sirisak Laochankham, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Administration, College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University; a policy brainstorming activity based on people-centered innovation policy, in-depth innovation policy, and systematic overview. Participants in groups then presented ideas for policies before the workshop ended with conclusions drawn for sustainable local development planning in due course.


Participants were able to exchange knowledge, information and experiences related to opportunities and challenges of planning for sustainable local development. Stakeholders would also be connected so that local problems could be dealt with from all sectors. As a result, the network social innovators and leaders of local changes at the regional and national levels would be strengthened.
