On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously visited Khon Kaen University to observe an exhibition and the production processes at the Battery and New Energy Factory.
At 12:30 PM, Her Royal Highness departed from the Golden Jubilee Convention Hall at Khon Kaen University to the Battery and New Energy Factory. Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Mr. Siriwat Pinitpanit, Vice Governor of Khon Kaen Province; Associate Professor Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University; Professor Dr. Thidarat Boonmars, Vice President for Enterprise and Social Sustainability; along with university executives, faculty members, government officials, staff, and students. Ms. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Vice President for Legal Affairs and Corporate Communications, presented a floral garland to Her Royal Highness upon arrival.
Associate Professor Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul presented a report to Her Royal Highness regarding the Battery and New Energy Factory, which was established in 2021. The facility produces lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries under the trademark “KKU Volt” and serves as a learning center and cooperative education site for Thailand’s first Bachelor of Science program in Battery and New Energy Technology.
Her Royal Highness graciously accepted several energy storage systems presented by the Chairman of the University Council, comprising a 25-kilowatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System with a 10-kilowatt solar power generation system, two portable All-in-One Moveable BESS units (5 kilowatt-hours each), and 130 portable backup batteries (2,600 milliampere-hours each).
Her Royal Highness then proceeded to observe seven exhibitions and production stations showcasing the complete battery manufacturing process, from materials to safety testing according to international standards. Exhibition 1: From Materials to Battery Cell Production; Exhibition 2: From Battery Cells to Applications and IoT Systems; Exhibition 3: Semi-Automated Battery Cell Assembly; Exhibition 4: Electrode Production; Exhibition 5: Battery Cell Selection and Grouping; Exhibition 6: Battery Pack Production for Energy Storage Systems; Exhibition 7: Battery Safety Testing According to International Standards
Following the tour, Her Royal Highness graciously signed the commemorative guestbook and granted a group photograph with the University Council members, executives, and staff.
Her Royal Highness concluded the royal visit at 1:10 PM and departed for Khon Kaen Airport.
