March 3, 2022 – The Coordinating Center for Royal Projects, Khon Kaen University, conducted a survey of the plantation sources and collected data of Thai herbs planting and use at the Village Funding Office, Ban Sap Paisan, Village No. 17, Nong Yaplong Sub-district, Wangsapung District, Loei Province. Asst. Prof. Jutaporn Sawaengkaew, Ph.D., Acting Deputy Director of the Coordinating Center for Royal Projects, Khon Kaen University and Mr. Somyot Meetha, an academic officer from the Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University introduced the project and led the discussion and learning and sharing activity about the conservation and utilization of Thai herbs and “Thai Ginseng”. Participants included community leaders and villagers, most of whom grow herbs for their household consumption and for sharing among village members. Only some of them use Thai ginseng as a food ingredient.
In the afternoon, the Coordinating Center for Royal Projects held another activity for making conservation plans and developing sustainable use of herbs at the Learning Resource and Innovation and Technology Transfer ground of Khon Kaen University, which is at Nong Yaplong Sub-district, Wangsapung District, Loei Province. On this occasion, Mr. Banthoeng Hinthao, Vice President of Nong Yaplong Sub-district Administrative Organization; Head of the Permanent Secretary Office; Sub-district Council Chairman, Village Head, and a group of villagers joined the activity. Asst. Prof. Jutaporn Sawaengkaew, Ph.D., Acting Deputy Director of the Coordinating Center for Royal Projects, Khon Kaen University, explained about the objectives and background of the activity. Asst. Prof. Somporn Ketkaew, Acting Deputy Director of the Coordinating Center for Royal Projects, Khon Kaen University gave a talk about the utilization of herbs and herbs manufacturing for commercial purposes that would build incomes to the community. In addition, Dr. Ketsuda Dechpimon, Head of the Center for Agricultural Product Certification and Miss Wilawan Dornwicha, an agricultural officer, gave an introduction and explanation about GAP standard (Good Agricultural Practices) for making agricultural products safe and standardized in order to enhance incomes for the farmers while the products are accepted by the society.
Mr. Somyot Meetha, an academic officer from the Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University gave a talk about the growing of Thai ginseng. The Faculty of Agriculture has brought ginseng cultivars from the plantation at the Learning Resource and Innovation and Technology Transfer ground of Khon Kaen University to the following Village Heads for growing: Village No. 8, Ban Na Dokmai; Village No. 10, Ban Khok Fai; Village Bo. 17, Ban Sap Paisan, Nong Yaplong Sub-district Administrative Organization; as well as to other villagers who are interested to grow Thai ginseng. An implementation committee was appointed, called “The Growers and Developers of Thai Herbs Group”, which has Mrs. Supee from Village No. 8, Ban Na Dokmai being the chairperson. Mrs. Supee will present the information about Thai ginseng farming with the experts and give details about quality management to farmers for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) at the next event to be held.
