Thailand A.I. University Consortium is expediting AI technologies for the country growth

December 3, 2020 – An MOU signing ceremony was held by Thailand A.I. University Consortium comprising the 5 Thailand AI universities, namely, Khon Kaen University, Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Prince of Songkhla University, and King Monkut University of Technology Lad Krabung, with CMKL Thailand. The universities are joining force to develop artificial intelligence technologies, which are now becoming more and more important to our daily lives. The collaboration will be in terms of joint research and development of Deep-Tech innovations with the use of artificial intelligence. The Consortium has also entered as a network member of NVIDIA A.I. Technology Centre, where many world leading universities already join. NVIDIA is the producer of GPU machine, a key mechanism of high-speed processing unit for artificial intelligence of the world. The objectives of the Consortium are to develop high technologies to support in-depth academic works, promote joint research of domestic and foreign researchers to create innovations that can be put into real use, collaborate with the industrial sector in preparing manpower and creating technologies that are essential for the national growth, and strengthen the national capacities of human resources of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The Program Management Unit to increase the national competitive competence (PMU – Competitiveness) has supported and encouraged the AI university Consortium to collaborate and create innovations by means of research work that can be put into real use. The 2021 fiscal budget has already been allocated.

Presidents of the 5 universities or representatives signed the MOU on this occasion. Among the witnesses were Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Vice Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siree Chaiseree, Director of PMU – C.

KKU was represented by Prof. Dr. Monchai Duanchinda, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies; Prof. Dr. Phewphan Maleewong, M.D., Assistant to KKU President for Research and Graduate Studies; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wanida Kaen-akat, a lecturer of Computer Engineering Department.
