Law Department, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies and ASEAN Study Center of collaborates with Lao PDR

Department of Laws, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies and ASEAN Study Center of Khon Kaen University builds collaboration in laws with People’s Democratic Republic of Laos, to strengthen economy, social, law and culture. The institute representing Lao PDR is Faculty of Law and Political Science of Lao National University, while Thailand is represented by the Parliament of Thailand.

Friday September 18 to Sunday September 20, 2020 at Amanta Hotel, Muang District, Nongkhai –  The ASEAN Community Committee of the Parliament, Center for ASEAN Community of the House of Representatives led by Khun Khunnawut Tantrakoon, Vice Secretary of the House of Representatives; ASEAN Study Center of Khon Kaen University led by Dr. Apirat Phetsiri, KKU Adviser in International Law; and Faculty of Law and Political Science of Lao National University held a forum under the context of ASEAN Community on the topic: “Collaboration of Law between Thailand and Lao PDR in Economy, Social, Law and Culture: Model and Challenges for the Exclusive Economy Zone of ASEAN Community”. Mr. Ronnachai Jitwiset, Nongkhai Governor presided over the opening ceremony.

The forum featured the following interesting activities:

  1. A forum on joint drafting of laws related to the Exclusive Economy Zone between Thailand and Lao PDR
  2. A forum on the trend for cooperation in trading and investment in the Exclusive Economy Zone of Nongkhai and Lao PDR
  3. A special talk on the establishment of in the Exclusive Economy Zone of Nongkhai by the Head of Provincial Development Strategies Group, Office of Nongkhai Province
  4. A study trip to the establishment sire of the Exclusive Economy Zone of Nongkhai – Lao PDR
  5. A special lecture on Investment in the Exclusive Economy Zone of Nongkhai – Lao PDR: Problems and Obstacles in the BOI Perspective
  6. A forum and brainstorming on the collaboration approaches in law between Thai Parliament and Lao PDR to set research topics together, which will be on law and will be carried out by Office of Secretary of the Parliament, Office of Secretary of the Senate, and ASEAN Study Center of Khon Kaen University

Among participants from Khon Kaen University were lecturers and researchers including Miss Rongrat Wirotphet, a member of ASEAN Study Center Committee; Asst. Prof. Damorn Khamtrai, Chairman of Law Program, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies; Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharaporn Seehawatana, a lecturer from Law Program, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies; and Dr. Paramaporn Weerapan, a lecturer from Law Program, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, who joined as key speakers all through the 3 days.
