KKU makes merit in Royal Kathin Presentation Ceremony 2019

Khon Kaen University makes merit in Royal Kathin Presentation Ceremony 2019 at Wat Phra That Phanom Wora Maha Wihan in Nakhon Phanom Province, with an offering amount of 3,224,210 baht

On October 27, 2019 – His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn bestowed the Royal robes upon Khon Kaen University to present to monks who have completely observed the Lent at Wat Phra That Phanom Wora Maha Wihan in Nakhon Phanom Province. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul (M.D.) Adviser to Acting President, presided over the ceremony on the laymen’s part with a number of administrators, lecturers, KKU personnel, and Buddhists in the Royal Kathin Presentation Ceremony. Phra Thep Woramunee, Abbot of Wat Phra That Phanom Wora Maha Wihan and Ecclesiastical Nakhon Phanom Provincial Governor, presided over the ceremony on the monks’ part. The offering of this merit amounted to 3,224,210 baht.

Phra Thep Woramunee made well wishes to the Buddhists as presenting Kathin robes at the Royal Ceremony was one of good deeds in life. Kathin presentation also corresponded to 3 aspects of KKU’s ideology which were academic knowledge, experience for career, and morality. Academic knowledge and experience for career were used to earn a living. However, morality would guide us to find balance and live sufficient life. He espressed gratitude to Khon Kaen University for using Phra That Phanom as the university emblem and building the model of Phra That Phanom as a place where people could make merit.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul said it was a great honor that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn kindly bestowed the Royal robes upon Khon Kaen University to present to monks. Khon Kaen University was grateful for His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s kindness. Long Live His Majesty the King. Royal Kathin Presentation Ceremony was part of religion preservation. This year, especially, was a great opportunity to make merit at Wat Phra That Phanom Wora Maha Wihan in Nakhon Phanom Province. Wat Phra That Phanom was one of temples existing for a long time in Thailand, and the symbol of Phra That Phanom was adopted to use as the university emblem. Therefore, everyone in Khon Kaen University  deeply attached to Phra That Phanom.   

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niyom Wongpongkham, Vice President for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy revealed Royal Kathin Presentation Ceremony 2019 was held at Wat Phra That Phanom Wora Maha Wihan in Nakhon Phanom Province. It could be considered as an important opportunity for KKU people to make great merit because the ceremony was held once a year. As a committee of Royal Kathin Presentation Ceremony, he expressed gratitude to all related parties contributing to this success and wished them good luck. 

On October 26, 2019 – the Kathin robes, merit materials and donated money were officially celebrated, with Phra Raj Pariyatsophon, the Ecclesiastical Khon Kaen Provincial Governor chanting the holy prayer and preaching for goodness of all. Then lecturers and senior students led the activities taking freshmen to pay homage to Phra That Phanom and make merit.
