KKU researchers listen to impact from the founding of the new ministry presented by TSRI and Office of TSRI Policy

TSRI and Office of TSRI Policy gave a special talk on impacts of the new ministry and the national strategies to KKU researchers

July 1, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. – Division of Research Administration of Khon Kaen University organized a special talk on the “Uniting ministries into a new ministry and the national strategies during the 20-year period (2017-2036). The event was honored to have Prof. Dr. Suthipan Jitpimonmat MD, Director of Office of Thailand Science, Research and Innovation (TSRI) presiding over the opening ceremony and Prof. Dr. Monchai Duangchinda, Acting Vice President for Research and Academic Service delivering the reporting speech. The objectives of this event were to give details of the new ministry’s roles and the impacts that will arise on researchers, the ministry’s policies that respond to the national strategies, and the new research administration system of universities that is based on the researchers’ potentials and expertise, requirements of people in the community, community’s participation in problem solution and community development in the Northeast and the country. Over 200 researchers attended this event which took place at Room 1504, Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy of Khon Kaen University.

Prof. Dr. Suthipan Jitpimonmat MD, Director of Office of Thailand Science, Research and Innovation (TSRI) revealed that under the new ministry, TSRI will be a public organization instead of an official organization. Its structure will resemble that of TRF, with a policy committee, funding, and an office. What will be changed are: closer cooperation with researchers and direct support to researchers. Thus, success can be expected at the researchers’ level.

Prof. Dr. Monchai Duangchinda, Acting Vice President for Research and Academic Service said that it is good that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation emerges from the uniting of the work of Ministry of Science and Technology, Office of Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education and Office of Thailand Research together. One major aim is to implement research policy under the 20-year national strategies. The event today is the start for understanding the roles of the new ministry that will lead to planning of research strategy of Khon Kaen University that responds to the ministerial policies.

The special talk on the uniting of ministries into a new ministry and the impacts on researchers was given by Prof. Dr. Suthipan Jitpimonmat MD, Director of Office of Thailand Science, Research and Innovation (TSRI) and another talk on ‘the 20-year National Research Strategies (2017-2036) was given by Dr. Kittipong Promwong, Secretariat of Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Policy.
