KKU students win presentation awards at the 27th OHSWA Conference

Faculty of Public Health’s research studies win presentation awards at the 27th OHSWA Conference 2019

May 23-24, 2019 at Chao Praya Park Hotel Bangkok – Graduate students of the occupational health and safety at work program went to present their research work under the Faculty of Public Health’s policy to promote research work. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sunisa Chaikliang, Chairperson of the program and program administration committee including Assoc. Prof. Wichai Phruektaratikul, Dr. Yuparatt Limmongkon, Ajarn Orawan Phuchada led graduate students of the program and PhD students to join the 27th Conference on “Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene Management System & Practice” held by Occupational Health and Safety at Work Association (OHSWA). The association was established for academic development and operations in the circle of occupational health and safety at work. The conference was held to disseminate and exchange knowledge and experiences related to occupational health, safety at work and industrial hygiene as well as to promote development and application of occupational health and industrial hygiene system in the sustainable decrease of occupation-related risks.

The conference featured academic forums in different topics such as, “Adjustment of OH&S personnel to accommodate the changes in the AI age”. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sunisa Chaikliang who is the deputy president of the association for academic affairs gave a talk on “Occupational Health Service”; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wantanee Panprasit ran a forum on “Integrated Management System (IMS): ISO9001& 14001& 45001” with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chalermchai Chaikittiporn, an association advisor. Forums on other topics were presented by Director of Occupational and Environmental Disease Institute, Department of Disease Control of Ministry of Public Health and by Director of Labor Safety and representatives from private enterprises and Best Practice Factories in occupational health and industrial hygiene. The conference also featured booths selling many products and equipment in occupational health and safety.

One important activity organized by the association with cooperation from relevant network universities that offer programs in occupational health and safety is presentation of research work of the universities all over the country. Full paper is usually selected from the qualified committee members and the academic sub-committee of the conference. The articles will be chosen to publish in the Safety and Environment E-Journal, and can be used as part of master’s degree program completion.

In the 27th OHSWA Conference 2019, 8 topics of the students were selected for oral presentation and 11 for poster presentation. These selected topics were from Khon Kaen University, Mahidol University, Kasetssat University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Mahasarakham University, and Naresuan University. Three research studies of master’s degree graduates in occupational health and safety and a doctoral degree research from Faculty of Public Health, KKU were selected for oral presentation and 4 were selected for poster presentation. Two advisees of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sunisa Chaikliang, Miss Umaporn Thongsanthia received the Best Oral Presentation-second Place and Miss Monrudee Poonkasem received the Best Poster Presentation prize. In addition, Miss Prinyaporn Kaewyot and Mr. Peerapong Hadtjanwong were selected for oral presentation while Miss Watcharaporn Thatsanat, Mr. Pathomrerk Meesombat and Miss Phrueksa Chotana were selected for poster presentation.

Miss Umaporn Thongsanthia received the Best Oral Presentation-second Place shared her experience from this event, “The oral presentation brought a lot of benefits to me. Everything I did was from practice and good preparation which had to be done within 10 minutes and could make people understand me. I practiced speaking and personality for presentation at the national level. I learned how to answer questions abruptly if the question was clear, and learned how to tackle unclear questions. I am grateful to my advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sunisa Chaikliang who assisted me and encouraged me to submit this research work which was supplemented by the Thailand Research Fund. I’m grateful to my advisors who gave instructions and helped me to prepare for the presentation until I received this award.”

The organizers thanked the President of the Association, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wantanee Panprasit and the administrative team work of the conference which is beneficial to the circle of occupational health and safety. The event promotes students of the network universities to have a chance to present the work and exchange knowledge at the conference.
