Srinagarind Hospital and KKU’s Faculty of Medicine Launches “Doctors Care” Program to Tackle Hypertension

On February 27, 2025, at 10:30 AM, Srinagarind Hospital, in collaboration with Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine, hosted a press conference to unveil the “Doctors Care” program. This initiative aims to combat hypertension, a silent killer, by distributing blood pressure monitors and encouraging regular monitoring to prevent stroke and heart attack. The event was held at the Kawee Thangsubutra Conference Room, led by Prof. Dr. Somsak Tiamkao, Director of Srinagarind Hospital, alongside representatives from Khon Kaen Regional Hospital and Sirindhorn Hospital.

The Silent Killer: Hypertension’s Impact

Hypertension, often referred to as the “silent killer,” is a major public health concern in Thailand, contributing to significant healthcare costs and hindering national development. Prof. Dr. Somsak Tiamkao emphasized the importance of proactive management, stating, “Without consistent monitoring, patients may miss crucial treatment adjustments, leading to severe complications like stroke and heart attack.”

A Community-Driven Solution

The “Doctors Care” program, initiated in 2023, has expanded its reach thanks to a generous donation of 5,500 blood pressure monitors from Mr. Wirot Srisodsai. This donation has enabled the distribution of 1,000 monitors each to Khon Kaen Regional Hospital and Sirindhorn Hospital, benefiting patients across the province. Dr. Surasit Jitpitaklert, Director of Khon Kaen Regional Hospital, along with Dr. Warawut Kittiwattanakul, and Dr. Hunsa Ruangsiripiyakul, Deputy Director of Health Service Development at Sirindhorn Hospital, and the management team represented the two hospitals to accept the donation.

How You Can Participate

Individuals can join the “Doctors Care” program in two ways:

  • Financial Assistance: Patients facing economic challenges can request support to receive a monitor.
  • Contribution Option: Health-conscious individuals can donate 500 THB or more per device, with proceeds funding monitors for those in need. Donations are tax-deductible, offering an added incentive to contribute.

A Call to Action

Srinagarind Hospital encourages everyone, especially those with hypertension, to prioritize regular blood pressure monitoring. By doing so, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of stroke and heart attack.
