On August 28, 2024, Khon Kaen University took a significant step in enhancing its students’ real-world skills with the launch of AG Mart and Land Market, a comprehensive agricultural business hub. The grand opening was officiated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of KKU, at the Agricultural Technology Park, Faculty of Agriculture.
The event, which drew a large crowd of university executives, faculty members, students, and honored guests, marks a new chapter for the Faculty of Agriculture as it ventures into entrepreneurial education. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darunee Chotithayangkul, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, provided an overview of the initiative’s objectives, emphasizing the faculty’s commitment to driving the university’s strategic goals.
“The Faculty of Agriculture is dedicated to advancing Khon Kaen University’s strategic objectives, particularly those related to enhancing the self-sufficiency and financial stability of its faculties and colleges,” said Dr. Darunee. “By establishing new business models, we aim to leverage our strengths to create growth and ensure robust, efficient management under the principles of good governance.”
Dr. Darunee explained that the Agricultural Business Center, as an entrepreneurial unit, will empower the faculty to be financially self-reliant. AG Mart will play a crucial role in this by offering various products and services, including fresh eggs, organic vegetables, indigenous rice, yogurt, 3-low chickens, honey, and insect-based products. She also highlighted plans for AG Mart to become a collaborative hub, featuring products from other KKU faculties.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, underscored the importance of this initiative in aligning with the university’s status as an autonomous state institution. “As part of our strategic management plan, we are committed to fostering entrepreneurial units that are agile and capable of self-sustenance,” Dr. Chanchai noted. “The launch of AG Mart and Land Market not only supports the mission of the Agricultural Business Center but also enhances our students’ learning experiences, helping them achieve the educational goals of their programs.”
Beyond educational benefits, AG Mart and Land Market will serve as platforms for showcasing agricultural products, services, and innovations developed by the faculty, offering direct access to consumers. This initiative also provides a valuable marketplace for farmers, consumers, and the general public, contributing to the economic circulation within the agricultural sector.
The Faculty of Agriculture at KKU has identified entrepreneurial skills as essential across all undergraduate programs. The establishment of AG Mart and Land Market provides a practical environment where students can gain real-world business experience. Moreover, Land Market will facilitate access to agricultural products and services, benefiting farmers, communities, and consumers.
This initiative represents a bold step forward in preparing KKU students for the challenges of the job market, while also supporting the local agricultural community.
