KKU as this year host, so proud to close the 20th Chemistry Olympiad, transferring 2025 hostship to SWU

May 17, 2024 – Faculty of Sciences, Khon Kaen University, held the closing ceremony of the 20th Thailand Chemistry Olympiad (TChO20), announced the results and presented prizes to winning students of different categories, as well as gave out certificates of attendance, souvenirs and certificates from Thailand Science Association under the Royal Patronage to representatives of the Promotion of Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana (POSN). The event took place at Wittayawipas Room 1, Wittayawipas Building, Faculty of Sciences, KKU.


Assoc. Prof. Chanokporn Paosiri, Ph.D., Head of Department of Chemistry and Chairperson of the Administration Committee of the 20th Thailand Chemistry Olympiad delivered the reporting speech and conclusion of the results of the competition, which was held from May 13 to May 17, 2024. There were 100 school students joining the competition, including 96 representative students from 14 POSN centers all over the country and 4 students from the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST). There were 32 representatives teachers from the 14 centers and 16 observant teachers. The completion consisted of theoretical and practice tests. All of the students entering the competition were praised for being the POSN representatives. Assoc. Prof. Chanokporn then congratulated the students awarded the prizes, wished them good luck and hoped they would use the experiences for their future benefits. Assoc. Prof. Chanokporn finally thanked all organizations for supporting this event until it came to this success.

The ceremony featured presentation of prizes and souvenirs to representatives from POSN centers by Asst. Prof. Angkana Boonyued, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Sciences; presentation of certificates of honor to students joining the competition on the occasion that UN announced 2022 as the “International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development” by Assoc. Prof. Thanatkhun Mongkonassawarat, Ph.D., President of Thailand Science Association under the Royal Patronage; and presentation of certificate of Thailand Chemistry Youth by Prof. Wuthicahi Parasook. Ph.D., President of Thailand Chemistry Association under the Royal Patronage of HRH Professor Dr. Chulabhorn Walailak.


The next session was the announcement of the competition results and presentation of the prizes of the 20th Thailand Chemistry Olympiad.
11 Golden Medal Awards:
19 Silver Medal Awards and 1 Certificate equivalent to a silver medal
29 Bronze Medal Awards and 2 Certificates equivalent to a bronze medal
Prizes for the Regional Highest Scores, for the North, the South, the Northeast, the East and the West and Central Regions
Special Prizes – Highest Practical Score and Highest Theoretical Score
The prizes for the Regional Highest Score, the prize for the Highest Theoretical Score and the Highest Total Score were supported by Siam Commercial Bank (Public Company). The prize for the Highest Practical Score was supported by the Science Foundation – Dr. Preecha-Prapai Amattayakul.


Acting Captain Panat Kuaycharoenpanit, Ph.D., Assistant to the Director of IPST congratulated and welcomed the students to training at the IPST. “I’m pleased to join this closing ceremony of the 20th Thailand Chemistry Olympiad of 2024. The next step after this is that the POSN Foundation will submit the list of students who are selected for training for selection of Thailand representatives to IPST. IPST will then organized training and again select the students as Thailand representatives to the 2025 International Chemistry Olympiad, which is scheduled to be held in United Arab Emirates.”


At the end, the hostship flag transfer ceremony was held. The 21st National Chemistry Olympiad will be hosted by the POSN Srinakharinwirot University Center. Asst. Prof. Angkana Boonyued, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Sciences Khon Kaen University, at the ceremony, presented the hostship flag to Asst. Prof Mayusoh Kuno, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Chemistry, Srinakharinwirot University.


Asst. Prof. Angkana Boonyued, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Sciences Khon Kaen University delivered the appreciation and closing speech for the 20th National Chemistry Olympiad. The 5 days of the competition was a good chance for school students as the representatives of the 14 POSN centers all over the country to demonstrate their academic knowledge and abilities, both theoretically and practically. The dean said she appreciated all of the students who participated in this national chemistry Olympiad and congratulated all of those who were awarded. She then thanked the qualified committee members in the field of chemistry of POSN who worked hard in selection of the tests for the competition, all other committee members, the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences, Khon Kaen University, and the governmental and private organizations who supported the competition and made this event successful.
