KKU opens a new healthy check-in point with already-improved surface water management system and added green zone at Medical Center 7 Park and Reservoir

Monday May 29, 2023 – Division of Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Management of Khon Kaen University opened the new zone, which is the outcome of the improvement project of the reservoir surface water management, the landscape, green area of the surrounding as the zone for exercise and recreation. The new zone is at the park and reservoir of the Medical Center 7. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University presided over the opening ceremony.

 

Asst. Prof. Arwut Yimtae, Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment reported that the new recreation and exercise zone is the outcome of Khon Kaen University’s project carried out to improve the surface management system of the reservoir and landscape around the area.

The Division of Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Management, the Infrastructure and Environment Section of Khon Kaen University is aware of the sustainable management of forest park, rehabilitation of the ecological abundance, increase of the potential in retaining carbon dioxide gas and atmospheric dusts. In addition, due to the University’s celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University in 2024, this “Development of Medical Center 7 Park and Reservoir” Project was carried out.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that this area used to be the memorable exercising place in the past. It was good for it to be improved under the Medical Center 7 park and reservoir management project, as this answers the strategy of Khon Kaen University to build a Great Place to Live and a Green Society, as well as the University’s key interest in conservation of green areas, especially where former trees and trees that should be conserved stand.

“Those who like exercising can now come to the Medical Center 7 park and reservoir, especially in the morning and evening before the sun sets. The University is going to improve the landscape at the area and enhance the safety measures for everyone to happily exercise.”

The next session was planting of trees by KKU administrators, personnel and students. The seedlings, totaling over 1,500, were provided by the Division of Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Management, including Yangna, black rosewood, pod mahogany, Siamese rosewood, ironwood, corkwood, and Burmese ebony.

Assoc. Prof. Waranuch Pitiphat, D.D.M., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and personnel from the Faculty came to join in planting the trees. She said that she was happy to participate in such a good activity. Tree planting means natural conservation and Khon Kaen University will have a fresh zone, which is the sign of growth, just like what we are doing in preparing our graduates to become strong people. The activity also promotes officers of each faculty and department to build good relationship together.

“The Medical Center 7 park and reservoir will be another place for exercising of Khon Kaen folks, who can use the place for their good health. The area can also be used for other purposes such as recreation and rest, among the trees that we plant today.”

The species of trees found at the back of the Medical Center 7 Accommodation area include pine and dipterocarp trees, succirubrum trees. It has been found that a number of trees stood dead.

In the future, Khon Kaen University has a policy to rehabilitate the forest area around the park and reservoir of the Medical Center 7 as a zone with bio-diversities, and the forest ecological system there will be sustainably managed.
