Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies holds integrated short-course cross-disciplinary training, another learning and sharing activity

May 31 – June 1, 2022 – The Academic Supporting and Student Development Section of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Khon Kaen University organized the integrated short-course cross-disciplinary training at the Innovation Park Room, Lecture and Laboratory Building 2, First Floor. Asst. Prof. Kiat Saengarun, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies presided over the opening session.

Khon Kaen University’s implementation plan for the fiscal year 2021 set the strategies and outcomes according to the Objective and Key Result (OKR) principle. The first strategy was transformation of instruction by developing new Learning Paradigm Curricula, or the programs that adopt transformation of instruction from Teaching Paradigm to Learning Paradigm Curricula. New curricula emphasize 5 components, and the instructional structure is transformed from “receiving a degree after completion of all required credits” to “receiving a degree when the student has acquired knowledge and skills set in the curriculum. There is a change from organizing content according to the discipline to organizing cross-disciplinary contents. Therefore, the education section of the Faculty found it effective to hold the integrated short-course cross-disciplinary training, which also meets the current changes and the policy of the University as well as the Faculty’s.

The guest speaker on this occasion was Assoc. Prof. Khundech Suriharn, Ph.D., whose talks were on:

“Principle and Guidelines for Designing Non-Degree Curriculum” and “Instruction for Non-Degree Curriculum”:

There was then a workshop on “Details and Design of Non-Degree Curriculum”, in which participants were divided into 3 groups:

Group 1: Led by Assoc. Prof. Khundech Suriharn, Ph.D.

Group 2: Led by Assoc. Prof. Nakorn Jongrungkland, Ph.D.

Group 3: Led by Asst. Prof. Sompong Jankaew, Ph.D.

On June 1, 2022, there was a talk on “Guidelines for building a curriculum different from the educational standard or Sanbox”. Another workshop was conducted on “Producing draft of Sanbox Curriculum of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies”. At the end, the participants made conclusion of how the training could be put to use, followed by the question-answer session, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Pattareeya Lasunon, Ph.D., Vice Dean of the Faculty.

The training was aimed at promoting curricula with transformation of learning processes and instruction according to the new learning paradigm.  A lot of lecturers of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies attended.
