KKU joins Institute of Academic Development (IAD) to drive forward learning process as a mechanism for preparing manpower and developing the nation

March 16, 2022 – Khon Kaen University and the Institute of Academic Development (IAD) held an MOU signing ceremony for an academic collaboration project between the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University and IAD. The ceremony took place at the Meeting Room, 5th Floor, Institute of Academic Development.

Assoc. Prof. Sumalee Chaicharoen, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of education of Khon Kaen University explained that the Faculty trusts the Institute of Academic Development and the process model developed by the Institute, which is referred to as the GPAS 5 steps. Principally, this can be seen as a process that prepares man to build the nation, for it prepares man who searches knowledge and creates innovation. This molding process is an active process. More importantly, it emphasizes ethics, moral, and values, which will enable Thai people to collaborate in developing the country.

“The collaboration is a mechanism or a small machine that will help propel Thai education and reform the learning process of Thai children. It is the transformation from pupils waiting to receive knowledge, memorize it, and take an exam to pupils who are cognizant of the changes, possess skills that can acquire knowledge all through their lives. And thus, they will become able to construct knowledge, thoughts, and processes that assist them in applying the knowledge to create innovation,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Education.

Dr. Saksin Rotesaranrom, Administrative Chairman of the Institute of Academic Development said that this day was a good chance that Khon Kaen University sees the importance of education transformation in Thailand. The important goal and direction are the weaving or construction of knowledge, reforming learning by means of the learning process, which is the most important key for the success of different curricula. The learning process will lead to the concrete and tangible learning outcomes, which can be proved and are reliable. The national learning achievement can also be carried out, including the basic educational testing or O-Net, and the International Student Evaluation or PISA that are carried out after the development.

An advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Sumalee Uthaichalerm, said that active Learning can make learners become an innovator who can create innovations at the national level. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister and Prof. Emeritus Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister regularly reiterate this issue. The progress in this respect has been reported to the Prime Minister, and the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has propelled the Active Learning model in different regions. With universities backing up the project, the country will see the continuation and so the concrete outcomes of the educational reform will soon be evident.
