Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University explained that this meeting of the Administrative Committee for Covid-19 was on the planning for vaccination for 3 groups: school students, students and personnel. The school students including of course the Demonstration School students of Khon Kaen University are scheduled to receive vaccination during the beginning of February and the vaccination service will continue until all school students have been accounted for. For the university student group, 98% have already been vaccinated the second shot. Some have even received the 3rd and the 4th shots. Therefore, the University discussed about giving the third shot for those who have had the second one for over 3 months. The vaccine allocated to the hospital now includes both Pfizer and Astra Zeneca, depending on the timing. The students have in general received Sinovac or Sinopharm. According to medical information, the third activating vaccine can be either Astra Zeneca or Pfizer as the efficiency is equal. Therefore, it depends on the appointment date, which vaccine will be allocated. For the staff, the majority have had the activating shot. Only about 1,000 are to be given the third shot. So there is no worry about this. At least, most have had two shots.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul added, “Now the situation of Covid-19 pandemic is improved. The number of infected patients decreased and the severity has also reduced a great deal. We just keep on watching, and if the tendency is like this, the situation will be the same as other countries. The disease will become an endemic disease soon.”
