Chinese Consul General donates books to KKU Confucius Institute Library, with expectation to promote learning and strengthen Thailand-China relationship

November 24, 2021 – Khon Kaen University held a ceremony on line to receive the donated books from the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Khon Kaen. HE Liao Junyun, the Consul General conveyed the book donation address. Prof. Chen Shijian, Vice President of the Southwest University thanked on behalf of the Confucius Institute. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University also presented the thanking speech while Asst. Prof. Acharawan To-phakngarm, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for International Affairs, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Confucius Institute. The onsite event took place at Sarasin Room, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University.

His excellency, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China to Khon Kaen, Thailand, said, “I have learned that the Confucius Institute, Khon Kaen University opens the Library of the Institute for the public and interested individuals on the occasion of the 15 years of foundation. The service is offered free of charge. I am pleased and appreciate this, and in order to assist the operations of the Library, and to enable more access of the people so that people of the two countries will have good relationship, the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China thus donates a number of contemporary Chinese books to the Library of Confucius Institute of Khon Kaen University.”

“I believe that the Library will be a venue that relates stories about China and make China known. I hope the books will enable Thai friends to understand more about China. I also hope that the newly renovated library will assist in building the fundamental knowledge about Chinese language and Chinese culture, as the supporter for the relationships between Thailand and China,” said the Consul General.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University thanked the General Consulate of China for the donation of books about Chinese language and culture to the Confucius Institute of Khon Kaen University.

“The Library of the Confucius Institute is the place that compiles a lot of books about China, with efficient system. The library is now open for the public for free of charge. The borrowing-returning system is arranged online, answering the present-day situation. It can be seen that the Confucius Institute has developed a great deal in terms of social service. This is in accordance with the social dedication philosophy of KKU. I believe that the Institute will take this chance to participate with the community and become more known. Again, congratulations and my appreciation for the dedication and intention of the administrators, the lecturers and staff. I am grateful to the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China for the donation of books to Khon Kaen University,” said KKU President.

Asst. Prof. Acharawan To-phakngarm, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for International Affairs said, “This year, the Library of the Institute is open for the public, without any fee. This is for academic service to the community so that the Institute will be more known. When there are more customers, the number of books should be increased. It is therefore a good occasion that the Confucius Institute receives more books from the General Consulate. These books will be useful for the instruction and for serving people who are interested in Chinese language and culture.”

“We are grateful to the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Khon Kaen for the support to the Confucius Institute of Khon Kaen University. I believe the books will be useful for everyone,” said the Assistant to the President for International Affairs.

After the book donation ceremony, a meeting was held online for the administrative members of the Southwest University and Khon Kaen University. This was the 16th meeting of 2021. The agenda included the 2021 annual report, the implementation plans of 2022, the collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the collaboration with the Faculty of Education, and the financial report of the institute.
