In the age that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has taken its roles in various aspects of life, education is another area where AI can be used to upgrade the service and efficiently answer the needs of users.

Faculty of Education, KKU, is aware of the importance of this and so developed the platform called “Khru Prom” an EDKKU AI CHATBOT that is comparable to a smart tool to assist communication and access to information of students, lecturers and users in general, making the work smoother, more convenient, and more accurate.

The beginning of the development of “Khru Prom” an EDKKU AI CHATBOT was from the existing problems. The  has a great number of students, but there is shortage of officers providing information service and answering questions. Therefore, services are not fully covered and there is the time limit due to operations available during office hours only. The Faculty thus held meetings to brainstorm ideas from staff and administrators of the Faculty to analyze the causes and find the solution.

Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjug, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty said that the Faculty has the policy to promote the integration of AI with the work of the Faculty. The problem was then discussed until there was the joint development a team led by Dr. Samart Singma, a lecturer of the Department of Innovation Technology and Learning Science (ITALS). The team developed an AI model that had been trained with information related to the Faculty of Education, covering academic calendar, course information, time-table of courses, and lecturers, as the fundamental model. Later, training was organized for personnel from all sections to be able to manage the information under the responsibility. The information was compiled by the personnel from all sectors, so it is certain that the information was correct, complete and corresponds to the present situation.

Dr. Samart Singma added that “Khru Prom” an EDKKU AI CHATBOT is a smart assistant that can provide services to students, lecturers, personnel and users in general, in various forms such as:

Explain about general information of the Faculty of Education, e.g., programs, academic calendar, course information, time-table, and course lecturers
Inform about various activities of the Faculty of Education
Provide instruction related to application to programs, registration and program completion
Answer frequent questions (FAQs) related to educational instruction
Be the channel for communications between the Faculty of Education and students, personnel, and
EDKKU AI CHATBOT can chat in Thai, English and China.

“Khru Prom” EDKKU AI CHATBOT is in the initial stage of development. However, with the existing potentiality, it is expected to be an important tool that will upgrade the level of services, increase the work efficiency, and build good experiences for lecturers, students and users in general.

August 5, 2023 – Department of Thai Language Teaching, Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, organized the “2023 National Thai Language Day” to promote and conserve Thai language usage. The opening ceremony of the event, held at Saisuree Jutikul Room, Faculty of Education, was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjak, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty. Participants were lecturers, students, teachers and students of the network schools.

Every year, July the 29th is celebrated as it is stipulated as the “National Thai Language Day”. The objectives are to enhance and instill in the mind of all Thai people the awareness of the importance and the values of Thai language and to campaign for collaboration in nurturing and conserving Thai language. This year, the students majoring in Thai Language Teaching of the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, organized the “National Thai Language Day” just like every year to enhance the values of Thai language, for people to see the importance of Thai language, and to promote the correct usage of Thai language. The event is also a venue for students to present their works and for them to obtain experiences in working together to accumulate skills and expertise in Thai language teaching for their future occupation.

The activities in the 2023 National Thai Language Day this year comprised an academic forum on the “Thai Language Style in Creative Dimension” by Asst. Prof. Tanes Wespada, Ph.D., President of Thailand Language and Book Association under the Royal Patronage; Thai language contests for elementary and secondary school levels, including contest of story writing from pictures, relating folk tales, poem contest, and intelligence in Thai language. The opening ceremony also featured a stage drama, “Smell of Love The Musical”, a drama played by using poetic verse from the literature: “Mathanapatha” composed by King Rama IV, King Mongkut. The content presented the perspective towards sadness from love and was presented in a new dimension by modifying the story so that it corresponds to the present time.
